Where it all began

On this page, I will take you on my journey of becoming the Designer I am today.

It all started when I was young; playing with Lego and sketching cars were my favourite activities. From 10th grade (dutch; groep 7) on, I knew I wanted to be a designer, creating new products. I was so involved into sketching cars, I ‘founded’ my own car company called ‘Panter’. During high school I refined this idea, shifting from an early interest in the Design Academy towards Industrial Product Design at the HAN University of Applied Sciences.

Bachelor

Starting at the HAN, I instantly knew I was in the right place. I enjoyed my time here and I participated in many. Part of the HAN, were the many opportunities to do internships. Unconsiously, I was always looking for the opportunity that suited my learning goals the best, regardsless where it would bring me. During my bachelor, I’ve lived in 4 different places. During all these new experiences, I gained insights in that I enjoyed designing a product, but I was more intrigued by the strategic aspect of why a product was there, to begin with.

On the move…

During my bachelor graduation project, I new I futher wanted to develop my strategic skillset. In searching for a place to obtain this skillset, the TU/e with it’s specialization in Design Leadership & Entrepreneurship quickly got my attention. I saw this Master as an extension of my product design skillset and wanted to be a bridge between thinking along with the business where opportunities are, and translating those back to something practical.

My time in Eindhoven.

In Eindhoven, I got introduced to a whole new way of learning. It was a period of adapting and developing conceptual thinking and academic skills. A period of reflection, to really think about who you actually want to become. From this vision onwards, I started to look for activities which would enable me to develop myself towards this vision. An unimaginable experience in Sydney was part of this, but also adding a semester to my study time in order to follow the courses aligned with my vision.

But most importantly, it was a period of making lots of new awesome friends for life.

Future.

Thinking about the future is something that’s always on my mind. Always looking ahead, always looking longterm. In the near future, I hope to bring my vision forward by becoming an Innovation Strategist and to share my ideas with others by giving keynotes. In addition, I would like to expand my expertise area towards Creative Leadership. On the long term, I aspire to never stop learning and to become an educated innovation specialist. Later in my career, I would love to share my insights with the student.
